What's next?

Whats20next

Yesterday marked my one year anniversary in the bloggers sphere. I've enjoyed letting you read about my life, sharing my stories, happy or sad, it's been like a diary to me. Thank you all for visiting me, and stay tuned for more: I'm just getting started!

The Business I'm in

Eclipsys

I might have mentioned it before, but the above photo shoot I did on January 4th, and I still didn't get paid for it. You can imagine the joy I had when I came home tonight, and I saw there was the long awaited envelope from my Commercial Agent. I opened it, and I didn't see a check, but a letter. "Hmm", I thought, "maybe an apology for the long wait for my money, but they are working on it, and I should have a check within a couple of days". You know, wouldn't you think the same. And don't you agree, that it's kind of ridiculous that I have to wait 3 months to get paid for work that I did of which the product is already being used?

So, maybe you can imagine how shocked I was that it wasn't a apology letter, a request for new pictures, a bank transaction number to use to get my hard worked money. No, the letter was a standard short notice that the agency will no longer be representing me. I got dumped by my Commercial Agent!

You know, I realize I did not make a whole lot of money for them, and that's the impersonal, hard side of the entertainment business. And I can't even get to upset about it. Yes, it sucks, and please anyone who reads this, is in the business, or knows (or sleeps) with someone who is, please help me get new representation! You know I will be visiting my old agents office tomorrow, because I do wanna say bye and thank the assistants for the hard work they did for me. I really liked them, and they did send me out an average of 2-3 times a week! But I'm also gonna sit in that agency until they give me my money!

But like I said, I can't even get too upset about it. My family is going through a enormous crisis right now back in Amsterdam, and I can't even tell you how sad I am, so receiving a plain standard letter, probably not even signed by my agent himself, because he probably doesn't even know who I am, means little at the end of the day. My thoughts are with my family, and I'm getting the most incredible support from Peter, so that were my focus lies. I'm going to bed.

Working again

For those who care, or for those who read my blog (I know you're out there...somewhere), I started a new temp job last week, and that's why I haven't update my blog in a while. Last week was just training a couple of hours a day, and the rest of the day I spend working out at the gym, Runyon canyon, or at home with my pilates DVD. During the weekend I played tennis with Rye.

On Saturday I drove to Palm Springs to film my scene for the Independent pilot I got cast in a month ago! It was fun, but a long day, because I drove back the same day.  This week I started full time at my new job, and I feel like I have things under control. I love it here! My boss is a good friend of mine, and the other two co-workers are cool. It's very informal, close to home, just very nice. The only thing I have to get used to is to now find the time to work out. I guess I shouldn't be so hard on myself, cause a first week back at work isn't easy, getting back into the work routine and stuff. My plan was to get up early, go to the gym, shower there, go to work, and walk Sierra during my lunch break on those gym days (maybe 3 times a week?). I've just been having a hard time getting up early. I honestly can not get my ass out of bed! Next week I'll start going to bed earlier, hopefully that helps. Today I'm going to the gym after work, same tomorrow.

I got some really bad news from the home front about an uncle of mine, but don't want to get into that now. Maybe some other time. Gotta get back to work...

Sorry

Je suis désolé, Lo siento, Ik ben droevig, Sono spiacente, Perdóname...

I almost killed Mercury... Feel better!

Unan1mous

Did summer start in LA? It's freakin hot outside! Going hiking up Runyon in a few with Mercury, cause he got notice last night, that yesterday was the last day of his project contract. A good thing, so he can get some rest!

Last night was the first episode of Unan1mous, and when I heard about this show I was stunned, thought it wouldn't work. They really come up with some weird stuff these days! In short: 9 (I think) people are put in a luxurious bunker, like Big Brother House, but no outsides, and they do not know what the game is going to be, then they're told that that all have to decide who is worth getting 1.5 million dollars!

So, last night the drama already started! As I mentioned in a previous post, some reality shows are very interesting to watch and check out human behavior, which I think helps me as an actor in understanding people. On the first night in the bunker the obnoxious gay guy, gets in a fight with a even more obnoxious female minister, who can't stop talking about the Bible, and so pissing off the gay guy (and me) by saying that the Bible is right in everything, so two men together is soooooo wrong, and he will go to hell! One guy came up with a awesome lie to get the sympathy of the players, and told everyone he has testicular cancer. No one can leave the bunker, and if some one does, the money will be taken down to $750,000. They vote people off who have the worst secret. Before the show they all had to write down their worst secret, and 3 of them were read out loud and now they have to decide which secret (they don't know who's it is) is not worth of getting any money. OMG, I'm hooked!

*it made me think about what secret i could have that would have me voted off, and I can't think of any. You?*

Stamppot

Food_003 Food_004

Stamppot is a typical Dutch winter recipe which can be made in a couple of ways. The most common is the Spinach Stamppot, pictured above on the left and is made out of potatoes, and spinach, mixed together. You serve it with Smoked Sausage on top or with a Meatball (pictured on the right). The Dutch Meatballs are delicious because of a special mix of herbs you add to the meat.

Monday night it was raining in LA, and it was my first day at my temp job. At night Peter showed up at my place with a huge bowl of Spinach Stamppot and 4 Dutch Meatballs he prepared for me so I wouldn't have to worry about making dinner for myself during my first week back as a working Angelino.

Now, how does that score on the sweetness scale???!!!

:)

*huge sigh*

March 20, 2006

Shit!

I just spend a lot of time writing the most funny post about yesterday, but after I hit Preview, I lost the entire entry with all the pictures and all, so now I'm pissed, and don't feel like re-writing the post, so just check out Vanguard, Mercury, and Fishering (later tonight), to read about the fantastic trip we took on Sunday (with also Rye and CTo)!

Too much?

Tango

I might have over done my exercising a little bit yesterday, because my legs are hurting! I started with the gym in the morning, where I ran 4.5 miles on the treadmill, at home I did Pilates, and in the evening I had Tango class. I think I'm taking the day off today, and just stay on the couch all day...

But it is working! I'm loosing lots of weight, and I'm having fun doing it!

Pursue your dreams

Yesterday I was invited to have dinner with my scene partner and her room mate after rehearsing (for those who are interested: I'm working on A Hat Full of Rain, scene between Polo and Celia). The conversation was about acting, being supported by family in your choice, and believing in yourself. My scene partners room mate just moved from New York to LA two weeks ago to become a movie producer. She has been working as a tax lawyer for 10 years and hates it, so now she's here, already has her own script she wants to produce (she's been offered lots of money already to sell this script, but she decided to sit on it for a little while), and is now trying to get a feeling of the "industry". She audited our class last week, because she wants to take some acting classes, so as a producer, she knows what it's like to act. My scene partner (both Meisner trained), just started sharing our love for acting stories and the training we do every day. Just watching people in stores, in their cars, in coffee shops, every where, gives me so much information about people. As an actor we need to study peoples behavior, because any moment I could get a part to be that one person, yelling at the grocery clerk because there are no more strawberries. What is her motivation to be yelling at this clerk? Why does she need the strawberries? What happened before this incident that makes her loose it now?

About 6 years ago, reality shows took away lots of jobs for actors because networks could make more money with the reality, then with drama, or comedy. Now, there are more shows anyone can watch, and yes, there's still reality TV, but I disagree with one of my former acting coaches, who just hated the shows. I watch Survivor, and The Amazing Race, because first of all, I like the concept of the shows, but it also shows you so much about human interaction and behavior. These people are real, and reaction to real unknown circumstances in their lives. Once again, for an actor, I believe this is another opportunity to study people, because let's face it, there's only so much you can use from your own past and experience, so I need to use other peoples lives to understand and one day hopefully portray their lives. See, I've never been a waiter in my life, but still I had to play one:)

AAA to the rescue!

Yesterday afternoon, after driving home from Silverlake, I got a flat tire. The first one with this car. Now, I love fix-a-flat, and that explains why I have about four of them stowed...UNDER MY KITCHEN SINK! Yeah, makes now sense. Note to self: put them in the trunk!

Luckily I've been an good AAA member for 6 years now, so I call them to come change my tire (what? you don't expect me to do it myself, do you?). After about 25 minutes this guy shows up, and swear to God, he was so moody and dumb, you won't believe it. Bottom line: he didn't know how to change my tire! I had to get the owners manual for him to look it up, I had to hand him the right tools to get the knobs off the screws (or whatever they're called). After all that was done, he still told me he couldn't change my tire. I asked him: "YOU CAN'T CHANGE MY TIRE?" He mumbles "never mind" and starts mumbling and cursing, and finally gets the job he gets paid for done (about 30 minutes later).

I can't stand incompetence people! If I don't know how to do something I get help (AAA). I've worked in customer service for years, and there's no such thing as "I can't help you". If you don't know the answer, you find someone who can! How many times are you in a store and ask a simple questions, and the employee looks at you if you asked them to perform brain surgery, while all you needed to know is where the keep lip balm (they always seem to place lip balm at a very difficult place to find).

Okay, enough. I'm going to get ready to go hiking, maybe even the gym, and then a rehearsal at 6pm. Enjoying my days of freedom, before I start working again the end of next week.

Happy Birthday to you

He's been blogging about it for months, sometimes scared of it, sometimes looking forward to it. So today is the day that David  turns 30! Happy Birthday David! It's not so bad! The 30ies are the new twenties! I hope you're having the best birthday ever!
Also, it's my cousins birthday. PJ turns 19 today!

Happy Birthday Mom

Underthree_1

It's my Mom's birthday today:)! I'm waiting for my parents to respond to my video conversation request, but they are not responding, and the phone is busy...so popular my Mom is!

The picture is my Mom, my sister standing, and I'm on my Mom's lap. It was my first Christmas, 1974... Yes, I'm turning 32 this year...

Thursday

The day started okay: walked Sierra, had breakfast, checked email, read my favorite blogs, searched for apartments, and did my Pilates. The next plan would be cleaning the apartment, and off to the gym. But...I clogged the toilet by throwing too much paper towels in it! So now I can't go to the gym! I'm waiting for the plumber to stop by, before 5pm they said... He has 15 more minutes.

I really wanted to go to the gym, because last week I was kinda of schedule, so I was going to make up for it this week. Oh well, the Tango class tonight will hopefully help me loose some more. It's going really well, and I think I already lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks!

I'm now trying to enjoy the "not being able to leave the house", which I'm not very good at. I just finished reading the script for the pilot I have a small part in, because the table read is tonight. Read everyone's blog again, and I guess I could start cleaning my room, now the rest of the apartment is clean.

Did have a really nice surprise in my Inbox this morning. A update email from a friend who moved away about 3 years ago. It was a email send to 30 people, but it was good to read about his life now, so different from what it was, but exactly how he wanted it to be when we talked about it after a long horrible night working at the hotel, and treating ourselves to Stella at the best pub in Pasadena of which I can't remember the name right now (CTo, help, we went here with your parents for the Belgium beer fest).

Anyway, I'm ranting. Oh, the joy of the unemployed life!

Another Celebrity

This time at the dogpark in West Hollywood. I chatted with him for a little bit about his dog. I love his work!

James20woods

This James (Woods) was not as exciting as the other James I saw a week or so ago, but I went to acting school with this James before he got famous, so was not the first time I saw him. Still, he looked very James Deanish, leaning backwards on his motorbike.

Celebrity sighting

I'm never good at seeing a celebrity in a crowd, but last night I did not only see him, but could also tell everyone there where we recognized him from. His name is Eric Dane and he guest starred on Grey's Anatomy as Patrick Dempsey's wife's former lover.

Maria, Maria

Mariasharapova Rumor has it that Maria Sharapova is doing yet another commercial, this time for a phone company, and she requested me to audition for the part of her personal assistant. I totally sucked! Oh well, it was the 3rd one today. First at 10am I was disco dancing with two barely legal skinny girls, then I went to Venice where I posed for the same guy who shot me in my underwear on Saturday, but now I was fully dressed in a suite, and third was the Maria one. Some days it's just so hard to be "on" for commercial auditions, but I won't complain, because just to have 3 on one day is great!

Before the audition fun started I drove to Valley Glen to look at a guest house for rent. I had to bring Sierra (so the poor thing had to go to all the auditions with me, and witness 3 wardrobe changes in the car...while driving), because the owner of the house wanted to make sure the dogs would get along. They got along great but the guest house is available mid March and I don't have to move by next week yet. Sierra got so excited that the tried to walk on the plastic pool cover, and fell in the cold water. Yeah, she'll be getting a bath soon.

Oh, for those who don't know yet, my room mate is actively seeking a new job is applying for a position in Miami, so pretty soon, Sierra and I will be walking the streets, looking for a new place to sleep. So, if you know of anything, please let me know!

Okay, I need caffeine..really bad!

And the Oscar goes to...

The entire week now, Hollywood, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills are preparing for the Oscars today. There are limos everywhere, all hotels are booked, restaurants working overtime. For a couple of years I lived right next to the Kodak Theater, and it was hell, because all the roads were blocked. Now I live in the area where all the after parties will be. Very exciting and frustrating, because you can't go anywhere without roads being blocked.

Enough about that. Here are my predictions, and how I really think should win. I've seen almost all the movies (all acting categories), except Match Point and A Corpse Bride, but I'll give it my best shot...

Actor-Leading

Will win: Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote)

Should win: Philip Seymour Hoffman

Actor-Supporting

Will win: Paul Giamatti (Cinderella Man)

Should win: Paul Giamatti

Actress-Leading

Will win: Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line) (The academy loves sweethearts being serious)

Should win: Judi Dench (Mrs Henderson Presents)

Actress-Supporting

Will win: Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener)

Should win: Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) (the Oscar shocker for this year might be here with Amy Adams winning for Junebug)

Directing

Will win: Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain)

Should win: George Clooney (Good Night, and Good Luck) or Steven Spielberg (Munich)

Song:

Will win: Travelin' Thru (Dolly Parton-Transamerica)

Should win: In the Deep (Crash)

Best Picture

Will win: Brokeback Mountain

Should win: Mrs Henderson Presents...oh, wait, not nominated...I'm going for Munich

Screenplay adapted

Will win: Brokeback Mountain

Should win: Brokeback Mountain

Screenplay original

Will win: Good Night, and Good Luck

Should win: Good Night, and Good Luck

Okay, that's it. Everyone enjoy watching the Oscars or doing your laundry or whatever you do on a Sunday night.

"Just your underwear"

That's what the casting director just told me. I had an print audition for a bank, and was told by my agent "undergarment". Not sure what that meant, I called my agent back to confirm what I was suppose to wear. The guy wasn't really sure, "just what you wear to bed", so I asked him Payama bottoms and tshirt, and he said, "probably" (I decided not to mention I sleep naked). So I get there, sign in, wait, get called inside with another guy, and the photographer tells us to strip to the underwear. Now, I'm not really fat, and I have lost about 8 pounds in the last 3 weeks, but still no underwear model. Luckily I was wearing cute boxer briefs. The other guy, from LAModels, strips, and has the body of a Greek God, you know, once of those half naked Dolce&Gabanna models: etnic, six pack, just the perfect body.

Af44

Here I was: still a little over weight (about 5 more pounds at least), not toned, no six pack, chest hair, and 5'7. Sometimes I wonder if my agent really knows what he's sending me out for.

Oh, well, I gotta go. Doing some push ups, and sit ups, before we going to visit the family in Glendale.

Mrs Henderson Presents

With the Oscar being tomorrow, I have one more movie to watch before I can post my long waited picks. Tonight I hopefully watch North Country, otherwise tomorrow morning. Last night I watched Pride & Prejudice, and was not impressed by Keira at all, certainly no Oscar worthy performances.

No, yesterday afternoon I saw Mrs Henderson Presents. I can be short about this one: Delicious! I don't understand why this cast wasn't nominated as an ensemble, because they are all so great. I even think the movie should have been up for best movie, and...Judi Dench...absolutely fucking brilliant! This movie was such a delight to watch. Funny, beautiful, touching, sad...just see it!

Oh Sunny Day

It's so beautiful out today! Two days ago it was raining all day, and today I was hiking Runyon Canyon wearing shorts and tshirt, and it's March! The views were amazing, and it was really warm. Gotta love living in California!

This morning I finished my taxes, and I'm getting a nice refund! What a beautiful day! Now it's time to focus on the important stuff. The stuff that's kept LA busy for the last couple of weeks. This is what living in LA is all about: The Oscars!

Coming Sunday it's happening, and I'm almost ready. There are a couple of movies I still need to see. Pride & Predudice, North Country, Mrs Henderson Presents, and after writing this post I'll watch Walk the Line. Then I'll have seen all the nominated movies and performances. So let me wait a couple of days to give my picks for this years Oscars, because of course everyone is just dying to hear my opinion!
